
What do Parent Coalitions do?
The Parent Coalitions are organizations designed to provide information and resources to families who have sons/daughters with developmental disabilities.
There are currently 17 parent coalitions in Washington State serving 23 counties. The Parent Coalitions have contact with thousands of families across the state and strive to identify the needs of people with developmental disabilities and their families and work toward solutions to meet those needs. The Parent Coalitions listed below support this position statement. Some of the services that may be available from your local Parent Coalition.
- Education, health, housing, transportation and other resources.
- Local parent support groups, meetings, conferences.
- Current Legislative issues local, statewide, and federal.
- How to become involved in the legislative process.
- Identify concerns of people with disabilities and their families.
- Advocate for the collective concerns of families.
- Provide a local contact for additional information.
- Provide presentations/workshops on issues important to families.
- Provide a Family Scholarship Fund available to parents
- Present a family perspective on policy issues.
